Lillydale - Breathtaking Farm-Stay in Gold Coast

Picturesque FarmStay
Lillydale, located at Upper Logan Road - Mount Barney, is conveniently accessible by car within 2 hours drive from Surfers Paradise. It can be easily located by a good GPS. My partner and I had a relaxing and delightful two-nights stay at Lillydale. We received a warm welcome from the host, Bec when we first arrived and were shown around the area. The roosters and fowls, wandering freely, also extended their welcome to us!

There is a nice swimming pool and a barbeque pit near the entrance. You will also not miss out the interesting public restroom, named in the honor of Farmer Doug, “Doug’s Toilet”.

There are 3 rooms to choose from – Maroon Room; Barney room and Harper room. There is also a self-contained Eco-Cabin available and is situated away from the main rooms. We selected the lovely Maroon Room which is painted in pretty blue shades. The spacious room, suitable for both couples and families, consists of a queen-sized bed & a single bed, both covered with matching blue bed-sheets. The air-conditioned room comes with an attached bathroom and has a television cum DVD set, a couch and dining table. Complimentary beverage mixes, mugs and electric boiler are also conveniently available in the room.

We stayed there during the winter season in July but the fireplace at the entertainment hall as well as the heater in the room kept us warm and cosy throughout our stay.

Outside the Maroon room is the common entertainment hall with fireplace where you can find an old piano; a billiard table, books and television set. The private kitchenette of the Maroon room is attached to the entertainment hall and was great as you can play a game of billiard or watch the television while waiting for the food to be cooked! Utensils, cutleries, pots. electric cooker; oven and refrigeration etc are all available in the kitchenette.

Animal feeding starts at 8.30am & 4.00pm everyday and you get to assist Farmer Doug in feeding the farm animals. You will be fascinated by the “troop” of chickens & fowls trailing behind him! There is a wide variety of animals, beside cattle, which you can see at Lillydale. The range includes donkey; wallabies; sheep; a pig named Oinky and some ordinary-looking, yet unique chickens which lay BLUE eggs! During the feeding session, you get the opportunity to feed these adorable animals and the feeling of feeding and watching them is absolutely amazing!

There is one extraordinarily adorable little lamb at Lillydale named Bip. He was few weeks old when we met him and he was covered in white fur with black spots. Bip is a very friendly lamb and loves snuggling in our arms after we fed him with his milk bottle. He enjoys company and will go “meh meh” persistently whenever we walked away. Bip has a good buddy which is a cattle dog name Bandit, who is a shy and loving dog. You will definitely need to meet up with little Bip and shy Bandit when you are at Lillydale.

Besides animal feeding, Lillydale also offers many other interesting activities such as horse-riding; billy tea & damper which allow you to try out some traditional yummy dishes. Lillydale also provides arrangement to other nearby wineries and farms. The Alpaca farm is located nearby Lillydale, about 5 minutes drive and deserves a visit.

Meals are readily available at Lillydale and you should place order at least a week before your arrival for their preparation. If you prefer to home-cook, the nearest supermarket is at Beaudesert town which is about 30-40 minutes drive from Lillydale. For families with children, I would advise that the most convenient way is to place your meal order with Lillydale. For couples who prefer to dish up few home-cooked foods at the personal kitchenette, you may want to buy the food and ingredients before proceeding down.

Coming from Singapore, Lillydale Farmstay has offered us a rare and memorable experience during our vacation in Goldcoast. Staying in the farm has never been as convenient and cosy while the close encounter with the adorable farm animals was indeed unforgettable for us! Thank you Bec & Doug for the wonderful experience. Visit http://www.lillydale.com.au for more information. They are pretty fast in responding to queries via email. It may quite hard to get them via phone as they may be out feeding the animals.
